Death of Trees - Scarcity of Wood

Movie: Waterworld (1995)
2) An early sacrificial scene takes place in front of a dying tree. Other scenes also emphasise the death of trees and scarcity of wood, including a National Geographic magazine with the slogan "Paradise Lost" against the photo of a forest and the drawing of a tilted tree, and a wooden piano relic hanging aboard the Mariner's trimaran. Wood and paper are some of the most precious items in Waterworld - in particular "resin" - defined as "many plants, particularly woody plants, produce resin in response to injury". The Smokers - representing the elite - say that "if there's a tree then they'll ram it because they are talking progress", and are shown to have more sophistication over music (and video) compared to what the Mariner has access to, though their TV still shows some interference on it. The Mariner wears a microchip around his neck as a necklace - a souvenir from past civilisation. A flying machine is used to locate people in Waterworld - similar to a drone.

4) Peter's daughter, who appears second-in-command and mother of his cyborg creation, David, discusses an "agenda" describing the Engineers' planet as inhabited by nothing more than savages living in caves - with a background screen showing trees in the winter snow giving way to wheat fields.

Movie: Alien Covenant (2017)
1) This film (sequel to Prometheus) starts out in a futuristic room with wooden furniture set against a lake with mountains in the background. The "gods" are described as rejecting the humans and extinguishing them from the planet, but at the same time they are false gods because they are mortal like humans, and their power is an illusion so to speak. Later in the movie a "cabin on a lake" is dreamed of being built in the "new world" and the "terraforming zone". There are said to be enough supplies of wood on-board a ship to build it. Following that is a picture of a man outside a church carrying a bible, talk of arranging funerals, and mention of Rome when giving a toast. It's at this point the female lead walks through door c-45 - could be tied to a significant date since "345" appears elsewhere in the movie.

5) There are no trees in sight, but there are wheat fields instead that look genetically modified - described as a desirable place to colonize - but there is a lot of exaggerated mist in this scene.

6) They go on a mission to find their "ghost". One scene has dead/dying trees/stumps emphasised with "something passed overhead here", and there are no birds or animals.
